Based on data provided by Israel, at least 98 detainees from Palestine have perished while in custody beginning in October 2023. A human rights group located in Israel has stated that the true toll is probably significantly larger, because of many of unaccounted for individuals originating in Gaza.

Non-Combatant Fatalities

Classified government records shows that the majority of incarcerated Palestinians from Gaza who lost their lives in prison were ordinary citizens, based on a simultaneous inquiry.

During May of 2024, a military intelligence database tracking all militants in Gaza, a roster of over 47,000 listed people, documented only 21 fatalities in custody. By that point, 65 Palestinians from Gaza had lost their lives in prison.

Prison Situation

Assault, mistreatment, and additional maltreatment of detainees from Palestine has been normalised across Israel’s prison network over 24 months of conflict. High-ranking authorities have publicly acknowledged inadequate food and an below-ground detention center confining Palestinians who are kept in darkness.
